“Tears of silence: a report on China’s birth control policy in Tibet” by the Tibetan Women’s Association

January 10, 2013Tsering WangchukBook ReviewsNo comments

It is the way China controls number of births in Tibet. This little book is an eye-opening and secrets-revealing report on horrific and nonhuman Chinese actions towards Tibetan women.

After killing thousands during the occupation of Tibet, China invented a new way to eradicate Tibet’s nation- birth control. Famously known as “one child’s policy”, this is a law that is strictly implemented throughout China.

This book is entirely informative as it uncovers a secret Chinese goal of Tibetans elimination, of today’s violence against minorities, and violation of women’s reproductive rights. Although it is written in a very factual and straightforward style, and without any embellishments, it still manages to touch the readers’ heart.

Contents of the book covers women status changes from the Chinese occupation, birth control policies in Tibet, implementation of such policies, prostitution and the massive impact it had on Tibetans. A number of selected case studies reveal such terrible actions performed on women that one would find it hard to believe that these kinds of things are happening in reality rather than some horror movie.

Forced sterilizations and abortions without any anesthetics still are reality to many women living in Tibet’s area. When are we going to open our eyes and finally say stop to the ’Dragon’ swallowing countless lives?
